Gaza: 1.5 million people trapped in despair
Six months after Israel launched its three-week military operation in Gaza, Gazans still cannot rebuild their lives. A new ICRC report shows that people are increasingly struggling to make ends meet and that seriously ill patients are not getting the treatment they need. The report also shows that thousands of Gazans whose homes and belongings were destroyed half a year ago remain without adequate shelter.
New ICRC film - Gaza: paying the price. Civilians are counting the cost of the three-week conflict, which claimed more than a thousand lives and dealt a heavy blow to the economy.

Pakistan: ICRC deploys in Dir and Buner and assists thousands of displaced
The humanitarian situation in Dir, Swat and Buner, in Pakistan, remains fraught with difficulty. Fighting has left thousands of people with limited access to clean water, basic necessities and healthcare. The ICRC is providing them with humanitarian assistance, but needs unfettered access to them in order to do more. Sudan: seed for a better future
Lingering conflict and unpredictable climate have conspired to bring misery to Darfur. Communities struggle to survive, sharing their scanty resources with people displaced by fighting. To help restore livelihoods and, ultimately, self-sufficiency, the ICRC provides the population with seed, tools, food and technical expertise.  2-7-2009
ICRC survey: the impact of conflicts and armed violence on civilians
Displacement, separation from family members and a lack of access to basic necessities are among people's most common experiences and biggest fears. This was revealed by an ICRC survey published on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the battle of Solferino, the event that led to the creation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

From the field film series - Gaza: paying the price
Civilians are counting the cost of the three-week conflict in January 2009, which claimed more than a thousand lives and dealt a heavy blow to the economy of Gaza. The international community pledged billions of dollars in aid, but restrictions on essential raw materials going into Gaza will have to be lifted if Palestinians are to rebuild their lives.  26-6-2009
International humanitarian law: a universal code
This film looks in turns at the poor security conditions frequently confronting the civilian population, the fact that people often have to flee their homes, hostage-taking, the dangers posed by cluster munitions, and the work of preventing and punishing war crimes. It tells us the basic rules of the law and reminds us that respecting them is everyone's responsibility.  4-5-2009
