Democratic People's Republic of Korea: ICRC activities in December 2019

Since its presence in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in 2002, the ICRC has been engaged in a number of projects and activities in collaboration with the DPRK Red Cross Society (DPRK RCS) and government authorities. Currently, it is working on: one support project for the emergency department of one hospital in Pyongyang, four peri-urban water supply projects, two Physical Rehabilitation (PRP) Centres and one livelihood programme on two collective farms.

In figures:

  • 3,161 patients receive free care and treatment from the two PRP centres each year
  • 7,300 persons have support on agriculture and animal husbandry
  • 24,111 persons will benefit from upgraded facilities at two hospitals by mid-2020
  • 123,750 people will have sustainable access to clean drinking water by end of 2020
