Greece: Stunning 3D virtual photo exhibition showcases Red Cross Red Crescent history

Article 01 December 2020 Greece

Since the foundation of the Hellenic Red Cross in 1877, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Greece has been dedicated to serving the people in need, reuniting families and supporting vulnerable Greeks and migrants.

With an aim to highlight the 150-year-old history of the Movement in Greece, the delegation in Athens has put together a virtual 3D photo exhibition. As part of the online expo, 27 photos and videos retrieved from the ICRC audiovisual archives and from the current activities of the Movement in Greece take you on a journey down the memory lane.

However, this virtual journey goes beyond the Greek context. The hardships that Greece went through over the past century – conflict, natural disasters, migration – remain a brutal reality for millions of people around the globe.

Need for humanitarian assistance has never been higher. Whether from the perspective of a refugee during the 1920s, an aid worker, a child experiencing the horrors of the Second World War or a Syrian refugee, the photos reveal the fears, hopes and solidarity throughout the years that tie us all together.
