Jordan: ICRC Activities from January to December 2022

The needs of the families of the missing are multi-faceted from the need to know to the economic and legal challenges or the mental and psychosocial well-being and they will remain at the heart of our work in Jordan. Our engagement in support and accompaniment of the families of the missing persons is done in close collaboration with the Jordan Red Crescent Society (JRCS).

Together, we have, for instance, helped 7,336 people in refugee camps to make phone calls with their loved ones across the world.

The ICRC is and will stay committed to its role as the guardian of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). In this regard, we have organized workshops and lectures on IHL and International Human Rights Law (IHRL)to the Public Security Directorate, Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army, Royal Medical Services, Ministry of Health, and universities, among others. 

Our work with the detention authorities in Jordan started in 1978 and it has been one of the most important programs in Jordan. Throughout the last year, we carried out visits to 17 detention places and met around 553 detainees individually. This means that each of these 553 persons has had the chance to meet our representatives and have their conditions followed up on.
