Kyrgyzstan: Improving access to health care for detainees

16 April 2018

About 70% of the detainees in the temporary detention facilities in Kyrgyzstan now have access to regular medical care. And these figures will continue to grow.

Before 2014, those detained in temporary detention centres in Kyrgyzstan could get only emergency medical help.

This changed when the ICRC, Ministries of Interior and Health agreed that doctors from civilian hospitals should look after detainees on a regular basis.
