Learning from scratch in Tajikistan

04 April 2018

At 16, Maruf had to learn to write again – with his left hand.

He lost the right one after a cartridge he picked up exploded. In Tajikistan, people living along the borders with Afghanistan and Uzbekistan are often victims of unexploded ordnance. Through its MoveAbility Foundation, the International Committee of the Red Cross is working to help get them back on their feet.

MoveAbility is a special fund of the ICRC, created to help people with disabilities, especially in low and middle-income countries. Throughout the world, the foundation supports the work of prosthetic and orthopedic centres, organizes the necessary rehabilitation procedures, and supports people in their efforts to overcome the difficulties they face.
