The Pretoria regional delegation of the ICRC has been focused its efforts to responding to challenges faced by migrants and their families in the region in 2022.
The ICRC in Southern Africa has been committed to assisting migrants and their families to maintain links. In 2022, the ICRC's humanitarian activities were focused on promoting International Humanitarian Law, developing medicolegal capacity in the continent to address the plight of missing migrants who were separated by their families, supporting the humanitarian response of national red cross societies, engaging policy and decision makers on humanitarian law and policy and reconnecting loved ones who are missing and might be separated by armed violence and migration.

Government representatives from 13 countries attended the 20th Regional IHL Seminar for Southern Africa and Indian Ocean Island States co-hosted with DIRCO. An Outcomes document was adopted on conclusion of the seminar.
